Groff's Candies started in 1956 when a 15-year-old Ruth Groff was given permission to sell her homemade fudge at the local farmers market instead of collecting wages working on the family farm. That fudge was a hit, and a Lancaster institution was born. Now in its third generation, Marvin and son Josh Groff carry on the family tradition from their 6,000-square-foot production facility on Blue Rock Road, using Wilbur milk and dark chocolate and Tom Sturgis pretzels in their handcrafted confections. Still at the Bird-in-Hand Farmers Market after more than 30 years, still making everything by hand, and still the best chocolate-covered pretzels in Lancaster County.
