This box is curated exclusively for Lancaster Gift Box by Miesse Candies, Lancaster City's oldest confectioner. Miesse has been making candy by hand since 1875 which is longer than any other confectionery in the city.

 Inside you will find an assortment of Miesse's handmade caramels: some dipped in milk chocolate, some in dark chocolate, some finished with sea salt and some without. Each caramel is made in small batches in their Lancaster kitchen using pure vanilla, real butter, and fresh cream.

The caramel-making process at Miesse is something to witness. Intense caramel aromas fill the air as the confectioners stir the ingredients over an open flame in copper kettles, the old-fashioned way it has always been done. The result is a soft, deeply flavored caramel with a richness and complexity that comes only from that kind of hands-on craft. In 1875, Daniel W. Miesse opened a shop on North Queen Street in Lancaster City. He made and sold hard candies, ice cream, and baked goods at a time before there were paved roads or telephones in the city. A century and a half later, Miesse is still making candy in Lancaster, still the oldest confectioner in the city, and still beloved by generations of Lancaster families who grew up with their chocolates in the candy dish. After the Miesse family toured confectioners in France following World War I, they brought home the art of truffles and buttercreams and began coating everything in chocolate. Today they make caramels the old-fashioned way: stirred by hand over an open flame in copper kettles, with pure vanilla, real butter, and fresh cream. No preservatives. No shortcuts. Just 150 years of knowing exactly what they are doing.
